Michael O'Neal (Dermot Mulroney) and Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) have been friends for years. But when Michael tell her that he is getting married to a girl called Kimberly Wallace (Cameron Diaz), Julianne finally realized that she has true feelings to Michael. Then, Julianne came to the wedding and tried everything to get them to break up.

Julianne Potter was sitting alone, looking at the white Corvette which going away from the party. Michael and Kimi were there on their honeymoon. During these two weeks, she had been trying to separate both of them. And she failed. Michael chose Kimi. Her best friend chose the best girl.

Her phone was ringing.
“Hey, George,“ Julianne said.

“Having a good time?” George asked with his British accent.

“Not particularly, but I did what I came to do.”

“What? You split them up?”

“No. I said goodbye.”

“Good girl. I’m proud of you. But prouder if you were dancing.”

“I have big plans for dancing,” said Julianne, and then took a deep breath. “Just give me 30, 35 years.”

“The misery… the exquisite tragedy. The Susan Hayward of it all.”

Julianne smiled, but sadder.

“I can picture you there sitting alone at your table in your lavender gown.”

“Did I tell you my gown was lavender?” Julianne asked.

“Hair swept up. Haven’t touched your cake. Probably drumming your fingernails on the white linen tablecloth…the way you do when you’re really feeling down. Perhaps looking at those nails thinking: ‘Gosh, I should’ve stopped my evil plotting to have that manicure, but it’s too late now’.”

“George, I didn’t tell you my dress was lavender.”

George did not care. “Suddenly, a familiar song.”

The band on the stage was singing A Little Pray for You.
The moment I wake up…

That is impossible, think Julianne. George was not in New York right now. George was in the same room with her. Then, she stood up and looking for George between the dancing guests.

George continued, “And you’re off your chair in one exquisite movement…wondering, searching, sniffing the wind…like a dapple deer. Has God heard your little prayer? Will Cinderella dance again? And then, suddenly, the crowds part…”

Finally, Julianne found George who was sitting with the phone, staring at her.

“…and there he is,” said George. ”Sleek, stylish, radiant with charisma. Bizarrely, he’s on the telephone. But then, so are you.”

Julianne laughed seeing what George did.

George stood up and walked towards Julianne. “And he comes towards you…the move of a jungle cat. Although you quite correctly sense that he is…,” George was silence for a second, his eyes glancing to right-left, “gay…like most devastatingly handsome single man of his age are…”
Julianne let George put down their phones and kissed her hand.

“You think: ‘What the hell…life goes on. Maybe there won’t be marriage. Maybe there won’t be sex. But, by God, there’ll be dancing’.”

Julianne laughed so happy and then dance with George.

Yeah, she failed to get Michael. She failed to separate both of them. However, in front of her now there was George, her gay best friend. Maybe there will not be marriage. Maybe there will not be sex. But, by God, there’ll be dancing.
